Day 105
Meet them as your own kind
One week, one move: everyone you meet is a person with reason.
Look back at the week. You forecast the difficult ones instead of letting them ambush you. You traded the enemy frame for "they got it wrong." You looked past the snap to the person under it, named the good in the people you'd written off, and aimed real goodwill at the crew you never chose. Last night you tried it on a relative who needles. Five days at work, one off the clock, all the same move: meet the people you're given as your own kind.
Marcus tucked the principle into a single line. Animals and objects you use as you need, he wrote, "but towards human beings, as they have reason, behave in a social spirit" (Meditations 6.23, Long). That's the whole thing. The other person on the dock, the ward, the phone line — they reason, they choose, they suffer, same as you. That fact alone sets the terms for how you treat them. Not their manners. Not whether they've earned it. Their kind.
Seeing them as kin is where it starts. Next week turns to what you owe them once you do — your actual part in the shared work, carried whether or not anyone's watching.
Today
Pick one person you'll meet today and treat them, start to finish, as a fellow human with reason. Notice what changes in you.
